About
We focus on the cognitive characteristics involved in learning, instruction and in the design of decision-support and other health information technologies for safe use in clinical environments.
We are a multidisciplinary
research center devoted to the study of
medical decision-making, cognitive
foundations of health behaviors and
the effective use of computer-based
information technologies. The research
is steeped in theories and methods
of cognitive science, with a particular
focus on the analysis of medical error,
development of models of decision-making
and evaluation of human-computer
interactions. These studies are guided by
a concern for improving performance of
individuals and teams in the health care system.
Research Themes
- Analysis of medical error.
- Models of real world collaborative decision-making.
- Evaluation of human-computer interactions in the workplace.
- Surgical simulations for training.
- Cognitive and learning science foundation for education.
